
Ilana Ellis is a classical oil painter, interested in pursuing both portraiture and large-scale multi-figural compositions. She is inspired by baroque opera, mythology, and epic poetry and is searching for resonant images that speak to the human experience.
She graduated from the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy June, 2018, where she pursued an intensive study of traditional painting technique as taught in the Nineteenth Century Ateliers. She received many scholarships, such as a merit scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year, a merit scholarship for the 2016-2016 academic year, and several work studies, to support her education.
Prior to the Florence Academy, she graduated from Williams College in 2014 with a degree in Studio Art,where she was the recipient of the Frederick M. Peyser Prize in painting and the Florence E. and Horace L. Mayer scholarship. At Williams, she bolstered her art education with studies in Anthropology, Archaeology, and classical voice.
